
The event was conducted under the able leadership of Dr. J.K. Arora (Member Secretary, Punjab Biodiversity Board) Dr. Gur Harminder Singh (Principal Scientific Officer) and Dr. Sangeeta Sarangal (Scientist). It was organized under the patronage of Sh. Dharam Indu Gupta, Management Secretary, and with the invaluable guidance of Principal Dr. Sarla Nirankari. The event was supervised by Mrs. Sunita Verma, Coordinator, who ensured its smooth execution. In line with the theme, several activities were organized to promote awareness about biodiversity and its critical role in sustainable development. These included:
• Poster Making Competition
• Slogan Writing Competition
• Model Making Competition
• Declamation Competition
• Chetna Rally
• LiFe Pledge Ceremony
• Tree Plantation
Each activity was designed to foster a sense of responsibility among students towards biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. More than 90 students participated in the activities.
Principal Dr. Sarla Nirankari delivered an enlightening address on the importance of biodiversity, emphasizing its role as the bedrock of human health and well-being. She explained that biodiversity sustains ecosystems, regulates the climate, ensures food security, and provides essential resources like clean air and water. However, she also highlighted the dire threats posed by deforestation, pollution, climate change, and habitat destruction, which are accelerating biodiversity loss across the globe. Dr. Sarla Nirankari urged the students to consider the theme "Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development" as a call to action. She stressed that humanity must live in balance with nature, adopting eco-friendly practices and working towards the protection of ecosystems for future generations.
Mrs. Sunita Verma, Coordinator of the event, emphasized the role of biodiversity in achieving sustainable development. She highlighted the importance of understanding the interdependence of ecosystems and the critical impact of human activities on the environment. The event provided students with the opportunity to actively engage in conservation efforts through activities such as tree plantation drives and campus clean-ups.
The celebrations culminated in the LiFe Pledge Ceremony, where all participants solemnly pledged to protect and conserve biodiversity.
Principal Madam took the lead in awarding prizes to the winners of the competitions, further motivating students to contribute to environmental causes. Principal Dr. Sarla Nirankari appreciated the efforts of the staff and students of the Science Department for successfully organizing the events.
On this day, Mrs. Sunita Verma, Dr. Anjna Malhotra, Dr. Sonam Gupta, Dr. Parveen Saini, Ms. Kajal, Dr. Pooja Kumari and PRO Mrs. Jyoti Saini were also present to grace the occasion.
