 CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS

 

·        Students are to submit themselves to the rules and regulations in force made by G.N.D. University and the college. To help Disciplinary norms, normally students are not permitted to leave the college during free period. If they have some urgent work they should get their application signed  parents/guardians before getting it is sanctioned from the tutor. 

·        The students must carry the identity cards.

·        In the library and campus disturbance is not allowed. 

·        Students are to be dressed up properly. 

·    On Mondays and Tuesdays, students are required to come to the college in college uniform. It is also essential on special functions which shall be notified.

·        Students may wear only decent dresses during the rest of the week.  

·     Students must refrain from any act of discrimination (physical or verbal) based on an individual’s gender identity, caste, race, religion or religious beliefs, color, region, language, disability, marital or family status, physical or mental disability etc.

·      The students must not park a vehicle (Four wheeler / two wheeler / Bicycle etc.) in a no parking zone or in the area earmarked for other than the students.

·     Students are expected to be careful and responsible and exercise restraints while using the Social Media. They should desist from posting derogatory comments about other individuals of the Institute and refrain from indulging in such other related activities having grave ramifications on the reputation of the Institute.

·        Causing damage to or destruction of any property of the College or any property of others at the premises would invite punishment.

·     The students must refrain from cheating. Cheating includes: (i) Copying during examinations, and copying of homework assignments, project report etc. (ii) Allowing or facilitating copying, or writing a report or taking examination for someone else. (iii) Using unauthorized material, copying, collaborating when not authorized and purchasing or borrowing papers or material from various sources. (vi) Altering previously evaluated and re-submitting the work for re-evaluation (vii) Signing another student’s name on an assignment, report, research paper or attendance sheet.

·      Students must read the notice board daily before leaving the college to get information about instructions/ orders issued by the Principal from time to time.

·        Smoking and use of drugs in the college campus is a punishable offence.

·        Students are expected to maintain the beauty of the campus by their appropriate actions.

· If the teacher is on leave the students should go quietly to library and study books, newspapers/periodicals.     


                      Anti-Ragging Measures

Ragging in educational institutions is banned. Any one indulging in ragging will be punished appropriately which may include expulsion from the Institution, suspension from the Institution or classes for a limited period or fine with a public apology. If the individuals committing or abetting ragging are not identified, collective punishment can be awarded to act as a deterrent.


CODE OF CONDUCT FOR TEACHERS

“Teaching” is a noble profession with the obligation to conduct the ideals of professionalism to be engraved in responsible citizens of the country. The prime responsibility of every teacher is to ensure that there is no incompatibility between his/her perception and practice. They should be calm yet firm, patient and communicative, and possess a temperament amiable and respectable to all stake holders. The teachers should treat students with dignity and mutual respect.


Teacher’s Responsibility towards Students


Teachers should 

·        Respect the right and dignity of the students in expressing their opinion.

·    Adhere to equality, fairness and impartiality with students regardless of their religion, caste, political, economic, social and physical characteristics and Identify.

·        Train students based on their capabilities and strive to meet their individual needs.

·        Improve academic and personal achievements and develop their personalities through community welfare.

·        Inculcate research culture among the students by organizing, conferences, seminars.

·        Develop Mutual respect, trust and consistent communication for a greater connection and effective learning.

·        Refrain from inciting students against other students, colleagues and administration. 

·        Develop an inclusive approach and stronger alumnus connects for the current students.

·        Be polite to all the students and avoid vindictiveness against any student.

·        Make themselves available beyond the class hours, if required, and guide them without any remuneration or reward.

·     Maintain a strong teacher student relationship that leads to student engagement and a better learning environment to achieve higher order in the knowledge map.

·       Should adopt humane approach in dealing with students who are physically challenged.



      Professional Development and Practices

 

·       It may be conceded that learning has no end. It is imperative that a teacher continuously updates himself / herself in his / her field and other related ones in order to enrich himself / herself and the student community as well. He / she must also acquaint himself / herself with recent methodologies and other applications.

·    A teacher should, alongside teaching, pursue research and innovation to contribute in the continuous progress and development of a subject.

·      A teacher should regularly participate in Seminars and Workshops etc. of his / her own interest for continuous professional development.

·       Developing new teaching strategies and implementation of those in the academic system should be an integral part of the professional duties of a teacher.

 

              Professional Integrity

 

·        Teachers must maintain ethical behavior in professional practice by accurately representing their certifications, licenses and other qualifications / personality, regularity, punctuality.

·        Honesty should not be compromised in research. Every teacher should be well aware of the evils of Plagiarism and also that it is an offence which is punishable by law.

·         The teacher must maintain the confidentiality of all information regarding exam affairs as well as matters dealing with colleagues and students unless legally or legitimately demanded.



        Professional Collaboration

 

·    Teachers should be respectful and cooperative towards their colleagues, assisting them and sharing the responsibilities in a collaborative manner.

·       Teachers should refrain from lodging unsubstantiated allegations against their colleagues in order to satisfy vested interests.

·    Teachers should discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the established rules outlined by the higher authorities and adhere to the conditions.

·    Teachers should refrain from responding to unnecessary political motivations as these ruin the sanctity and smooth progress of an educational institution.

·     Teachers should accord the same respect and treatment to the non-teaching staff as they do to their fellow teachers.

                                                                                                                 

                                                                    CODE OF CONDUCT FOR NON-TEACHING

 

·   Every non-teaching staff employed shall discharge his/her duties meticulously and efficiently and shall conform to the rules and regulations of the college.

·        Non-teaching staff shall respect and maintain the hierarchy in the Administration and carry out their duties as instructed by the authorities to whom they are attached.

·        Non-Teaching staff must always wear their identity cards during working hours.

·        Non-Teaching Staff shall maintain honesty, integrity and equality in all activities.

·        Non-Teaching Staff shall exercise self-discipline and deal positively with staff, students, parents and public.

·        Non-Teaching Staff assigned to laboratories should be responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the labs.

·   The staff has to carry out any work assigned with regard to examinations conducted by the college or University as directed by the Principal.

·       The staff should take prior approval if he/she wants to avail leave. In case of sickness, a medical certificate should be produced.

·        Non-teaching staff will carry out their duties as instructed by the authorities to whom they are attached.

·    They should keep the confidentiality of the records maintained in their offices and are custodians of the files and papers entrusted to his/her section.

·     No staff employed in a college shall engage himself/herself or participate in any activity which is anti-secular or which tends to create disharmony in society or in any demonstration which is prejudicial to the interests of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of States, friendly relation with foreign States, Public order, decency or morality or which involves contempt of court, defamation or incitement to an offence.

·      No staff employed in a college shall indulge in any criticism of the policies of the Government either directly or indirectly or participate in activities which bring disrepute to the Government.

·  All should co-operate with the Management, administration and the teaching staff for the smooth and efficient functioning of the College. 


CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PRINCIPAL

The chair of the Principal of a college has got multifaceted roles to play and to shoulder multilateral responsibilities having characteristics of a patron, custodian, supervisor, administrator, adjudicator, protector, and an inspirer and so on. As the Academic and Administrative Head of the Institution, the Principal remains liable to follow certain codes of ethics in her conduct as proclaimed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) along with the guidelines framed by the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and the set of prescripts enforced by the Director of Higher Education (Government of Punjab). These codes of conduct are applicable, in general, for the College Teachers as well as for the Administrator of any organization. Specifics of the salient and significant codes applicable in the conduct of Principal are laid down underneath:

·        The Principal should exhibit qualities of effective leadership in all academic and administrative activities of the college.

·        To uphold and upkeep the ethos of inclusiveness in terms of imparting education in the institution.

·        To protect the collective interest of different sections of the institution so that each and everyone can perform freely and give their best for the all round development of the institution.

·        To institute, nourish and enforce equal treatment to all the stakeholders in the College so that there remains no scope of any discriminatory and disparate practice at any level within the stretch of the College.

·        To uphold and maintain the essence of social justice for all the stakeholders irrespective of their caste, creed, race, sex, or religious identity as within the framework of Indian Constitution.

·        To create and maintain an unbiased gender-free atmosphere within the periphery of the College so that all the stakeholders enjoy equal opportunities.

·        To generate and maintain required alertness among all the stakeholders of the College so that the chances of incidents of sexual harassment get ever minimized and ultimately eradicated.

·        To ensure that the teaching and non-teaching staff follow the code of conduct of the College.

·        To initiate and propagate the spirit of welfare within all sections of human resources attached directly or indirectly with the College and hence to build mutual confidence amongst them.

·        To maintain and promote academic activities in the College in all possible avenues already explored and thus encourage exploration of newer avenues for further academic pursuit.

·        To create an environment conducive for research oriented academic parleys and thus promote research activities in the institution to add further to the knowledge pool.

·        To uphold and enforce discipline in the behavioral manifestation of all the stakeholders of the institution and thus maintain campus-serenity required for academics.

·        To promote and maintain the practice of extra-curricular activities amongst the students and other human resources of the institution.

·        To endeavor for upkeep of tranquility of the region surrounding the College so that academic practices may go on without any disturbance.

·      To promote and maintain harmonious relationships of the College with the adjoining society and also to promote its sense of responsibility towards the society

·       The principal should oversee the maintenance of infrastructures and should evolve a system for monitoring the maintenance of the campus so that the whole campus is always neat and green.

 

                                                                                                       Code of Conduct for Governing Body


The governing body of the college is responsible for ensuring the effective management of the institution and for planning its future development.

·  The members shall contribute to the growth and development of the Institution with selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, transparency, honesty and leadership.

·      The members shall observe high level of commitment and maintain standards of quality governance in all the functions of the institution.

·   The governing body and its committees shall undertake a rigorous performance evaluation on level of attainment of long term strategic objectives and short term key performance indicators periodically.

·    The governing body shall ensure compliance with the statutes, ordinances and provisions regulating the Institution. Also, the information furnished to the Regulatory Agencies are accurate authentic and complete.

·   Governing bodies ensure compliance with the statutes, ordinances and provisions regulating their institution, including regulations by statutory bodies, such as UGC, as well as regulations laid out by the State government and the affiliating university.
