21 Feb 2023 ↑ The *PG Department Punjabi* celebrated *International Mother Language Day* on 21st February,2023 with great pomp and show under the able patronage of Principal, Dr. Reena Talwar and under the headship of Dr. Kulwinder Kaur Chheena, PG Department of Punjabi. To mark this occasion, *Poem Recitation, Singing and Slogan Writing Competition* were organised on the writings of Mr. Shiv Kumar Batalavi, widely comprehend as ‘Birha da Sultan’. In her address, while felicitating that exceptional event, Madam Principal expressed her viewpoint that we all must be proud of our mother language Punjabi. She elucidated the life and untiring contribution of Mr. Batalvi in the Punjabi literature.
Dr. Kulwinder Kaur appreciated the efforts laid down by UNESCO to give prominence to the distinct languages of mother tongue and to consider a day on 21st February to manifest the idea. She was of the view that every punjabi, no matter where they live, must regard its dignity. She also talked about the pathos depicted in the poems of Mr. Batalvi who is also referred to as Keats of Punjabi Literature. The events were judged by Dr. Poonam Mahajan, Head, Department of Hindi, and Dr. Neenu Sharma, Head, Department of Commerce. The stage was conducted by Dr. Ramandeep Kaur. Ms. Sonika of Fine Arts Department devised Slogan Writing Competition in which Navjot Kaur, Jaswinder Kaur, Amandeep kaur stood at first, second and third positions respectively. In signing competition, Chahat stood first, Sharuti stood second and Shweta and Tanu stood at third positions. In poetry recitation competition, Taniya, Arashpreet and Beena got first, second and third positions respectively. All the winners were rewarded with certificates.
