The events were organized in collaboration with Punjab Biodiversity Board, Chandigarh and sponsored by National Biodiversity Authority, Govt. of India, under the supervision of Mrs. Sunita Verma (Coordinator).
Principal Madam welcomed the Resource Persons i.e., Dr. Sudhir Mahotra Chairman (IEE) Pathankot, Mr. Abhyas Saini, BEAT Officer, incharge Sujanpur, Madam Navneet Kaur , BEAT Officer, Incharge Sarna by presenting them plants with pots. The function started with enlightenment of Vidya Jyoti. Principal Madam threw light upon the Theme IBD 2023 i.e., “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity,” as it prompts to rejuvenate our passion, commitment and hope for the future generation. She told that we should plant more and more tree saplings for clean and green environment.
Dr. Sudhir Mahotra made the students aware about various types of Biodiversity and told that it is the foundation for human health. There is need to protect environment, air, water for the protection of our existence.
Mr. Abhyas Saini threw light upon the conservation of wild life and also made the students aware about Kathlour wild life Sanctuary , Keshopur. He told that this place is very important from biodiversity point of view as many migratory birds come over here.
Madam Navneet Kaur made the students aware about MERI LIFE programme under the Department of Forests and wild life preservation, Punjab. She asked the students to use cloth bags instead of plastic bags, clean up wetlands, protection of plants, clean up water bodies in the surrounding areas to protect ourselves from diseases.
Mrs. Sunita Verma (EBSB Nodal Officer) stressed on consumption of millets in food and indigenous herbs and medicinal plants for nutritional well being, as they are very useful for the health and control Blood pressure , blood sugar levels and many heart diseases.
Various medicinal plants like Neem, Tulsi, Pudina, Curry Leaves and Ashwagandha were also planted in the college campus on this day.
Various competitions (Poster making, Slogan writing, Model making ) were organized to make the students aware about the importance of Biodiversity. Mrs. Parveen Saini, Ms. Priya and Dr. Anjna Malhotra encouraged the students to participate in these events. The judges were Mrs. Randeep Dhoot and Dr. Kulwinder Kaur. Winners were; in Poster making competition: Jahanvi Ist, Akansha 2nd , Swini 3rd , in Slogan writing competition: Ishita sharma Ist , Vanshika 2nd , Jahanvi 3rd in Working Models: Simranpreet Kaur Ist , Peehu and Munita Rani 2nd , Akanksha, Himani, Anshika 3rd . Principal Dr. Reena Talwar and Resource Persons encouraged the winners by awarding prizes to them. She also honored the Resource persons by presenting them mementoes having insignia of the college.
Dr. Sushma Gupta (Vice Principal) gave a vote of thanks to all the guests present during the function.
