Principal Dr. Sushma Gupta told that this day is celebrated to commemorate the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, which was signed in 1987 on 16th September. She told that the main objective of celebrating this day is to protect the ozone layer. The ozone layer covers the earth in the form of an umbrella, and protects it from the harmful ultraviolet rays coming from the sun's rays. If industrial activities and transport are run on earth in a controlled manner then we can conserve nature better which is the need of the present time.
Prof. Sunita Verma said that over time we have become very dependent on new appliances and technology. The harmful gases emitted from Overuse of vehicles, burning of rubber and plastic tyres, Refrigerator and AC cause a lot of damage to the ozone layer, chlorofluorocarbons are among the most prominent killers of the ozone layer. She emphasized on planting tree saplings, and reducing the use of pesticides that harm plants.
Dr. Parveen Saini said that due to ultraviolet rays, the risk of skin, eye and kidney diseases increases and it also damages our immune system and people easily fall prey to infections and diseases. So we should adopt measures to protect the Ozone layer.
