11 May 2024 ↑ Post Graduate Department of Punjabi organised a condolence meeting and paid tribute on the sudden demise of Dr. Surjit Patar, the renowned poet of Punjab on 11th May, 2024. This commemoration ceremony was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Kulwinder Kaur Chheena, Head of Punjabi Department, in the presence of college principal Dr. Sushma Gupta, Staff members and students. Dr. Chheena, while paying tribute to Dr. Surjit Patar, said that he was an invaluable patron of Punjabi litrature, and the loss to Punjabi literature can never be compensated due to his passing away. She said that he was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India for his invaluable contribution in the field of Punjabi poetry.

 Emphasising on his brilliant writing, Principal Dr. Sushma Gupta said that his poetry touched the chords of the heart and its musical quality reverberated in the recesses of the mind. He was also awarded with Sahitya Akademi Award, Panchnad Award, Saraswati Award and Kusumagraj Literary Award. The college principal Dr. Sushma and the staff expressed grief over the sudden demise of Dr. Patar. On this occasion, the college principal, staff and students observed two minutes of silence and paid tribute to Surjit Patarji.
