Shanti Devi Arya Mahila College, Dinanagar created history on 10th May, 2026 when Miss Diya Devi, a student of sports department secured the Bronze Medal in the Women’s (W1x) 200 meter event at the All India Inter-University Rowing Championship 2026 held at Sukhna Lake, Punjab University, Chandigarh. The prestigious championship, organized by Punjab University under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities, saw participation from over 20 universities and 300+ rowers from across the nation competing under international FISA rules. Demonstrating exceptional stamina and technique, Diya Devi advanced through tough heats and semi-finals before finishing third in the final race with an impressive timing of 8:42.36 minutes. This landmark achievement marks the first-ever medal for the college in Rowing at the national university level. Diya Devi was felicitated with a Bronze Medal of Merit by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Punjab University during the medal ceremony held on the same evening. Principal Dr. Sarla Nirankari congratulated Ms. Taljinder Kaur, Head, Physical Education Department and Diya Devi on her historic win, stating that this success will inspire many young women from rural areas to pursue sports at the highest level. This accomplishment not only brings pride to the college but also strengthens its sports profile, proving that determination and proper guidance can help students from small towns reach national podiums.
